2021 is nearly here – can you believe it? After much of this year spent in our homes due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, we have seen and heard from many of you who are considering exterior and interior renovations over the next twelve months. When it comes to the exterior of our homes, there are a number of changes that can create significant impact on the appeal of your home. Our favourite? Updating your exterior gutters for both curb appeal and functionality as we move into 2021. That’s why we pulled together our favourite gutter styles for the New Year.

Here are the Top Gutter Styles for 2021 – and how to choose one for your home

1. Half Round Gutters

The type of gutter are shaped almost like a tube cut in half, and as such they carry water effectively, which is very important in our Pacific Northwest climate. These are the most traditional style that are found on older homes and as such, they are making a comeback! If you live in an older neighbourhood through the Surrey, Abbotsford or Vancouver area, you likely have seen this style on homes nearby.

Half Round Gutters generally have a galvanized steel coating, and are extra durable for the long-term protection of your home. You can select a wide variety of colours, which makes it an even stronger candidate as our top gutter styles for 2021.

2. Fascia Gutters

Fascia gutters are functional in terms of a home design feature, and are generally found on modern buildings. They are typically larger than the aforementioned Half Round Gutter and are popular on larger homes with greater roof area, as it is capable of handling a rush of water. The Fascia is a long piece of aluminum that is painted the same colour as the home, generally speaking, as it will be seen from the outside. Aesthetic combined with durability means that this type of gutter can withstand the change of seasons.

3. K-Style Rain Gutters

K-Style Rain Gutters are the most common type for homes that have been built over the last 40-50 years. K-Style is derived from the profile of this type of gutter, as when viewed from the side, it represents the letter ‘K’. Like other types of gutters, K-Style are available in different sizes. While they are most often made with aluminum, it is not uncommon to see K-Style gutters in other materials, such as vinyl, copper and galvanized steel.

How can you choose the best gutter styles for your home in 2021?

With plenty of options available on the market to you, it now begs the question – “what is best for my home as I look to renovate or build in 2021?”

Above all, it is essential to discuss with a professional to help guide your decision making process. While K-Style gutters are the most widely used in America, there may be another option that better suits your home, your style and the longevity of your investment.
