There’s so much we can do to protect our precious homes. We install security systems to keep intruders out. We’re sure to have fire extinguishers around in case of an emergency. We trim our trees so branches don’t fall when there’s a storm.
The list goes on…
Problems with water, however, account for some of the most serious damages suffered by Canadian homes each year. Water can do a tremendous amount of harm, which is why it’s important to have systems in place that prevent floods and water damage. A good gutter system is essential, for example, but you can go even one step further to keep your home safe from water by installing certain accessories on your gutters, such as leaf traps.
What is a leaf trap?
Quite simply, a leaf trap can prevent leaves and other debris from entering your drain. Leaf traps come in various shapes and styles, but all are rigid and quite durable. This allows them to withstand a variety of weather conditions, including heavy rain and high winds, which can occur just about any season of the year.
In general, leaf traps are quite easy to empty. Certainly, emptying one is far simpler than having to hoist up your ladder and clean your gutters. Of course, that will still be a necessity but not as often once a leaf trap is in place.
Why invest in leaf traps?
If you have a property full of trees, perhaps you’ve been considering the installation of leaf traps on your downpipes. Or if you’re putting in new gutters, maybe you’ve thought about including leaf traps or guards with this new installation.
Leaf traps are a smart decision. You may already have screens on your gutters. Normally, they are located at the top of your system and keep debris up there at the roof level. While having leafscreen can certainly be beneficial, leaf traps are advantageous because they are located closer to the ground.
At Advantage Gutters, when we install leaf traps, we will leave the outlet in the gutter without a strainer/screen. With the leaf trap in place, small leaves and debris travel down the downspout and then are caught in an area further down the pipe. That makes it super easy to maintain. In most cases, you’ll be able to remove the debris with your hand and there will be no need for climbing up ladders, which can be dangerous for homeowners as well as time-consuming and costly.
Other gutter accessories
In addition to standard gutters and leaf traps, we also offer additional accessories such as rain chains, which can add elegance and charm to your home; leaf guards, which reduce the amount of maintenance required on your gutters; and more.
We recognize how important it is to protect your home and, as such, we provide gutter systems that will do just that while also keeping in mind the style of your home as well as your budget. We work closely with our homeowners to ensure that you get what you need to keep your house free from the unimaginable damage that can be caused by water.
When you meet with one of our experts about building a new gutter system or replacing an old one, we’ll educate you on the perks of various styles as well as available accessories, including leaf traps, and help you choose the system that will get the job done.
